5 Spectacular Wine Regions That Make A Great Weekend Trip

Travel and fine wine really do go hand-in-hand. Think about your last trip - was there a point where you sat back and relaxed with a nice glass of red or a crisp, dry white? If not, we bet you wish you had! Whether it’s enjoyed with a great meal or savoured on its own, wine is an art that’s celebrated all over the world. Fortunately, you don’t have to go as far as France or Italy to get your hands on some of the best vintages out there (though, we’re able to fly you there if you wish). There are some spectacular wine regions right here in North America, many of which make a perfect weekend trip. Here are some ideas to get you started - please let us know if you’d like to discuss private charter options for your next weekend in wine country.

Napa and Santa Barbara may be popular weekend destinations (and for good reason!) but you can’t go wrong in Sonoma Valley, home to many of California’s best wines. Make time to visit great spots including J’s Vineyard and Winery, Ledson Winery and Vineyards, Chateau St. John, Garden Creek Vineyards, Walt Wines, Landmark Vineyards, Schermeister Winery and Moshin Vineyards. Between the wine, the food, the atmosphere and the California sun, you’re in for a weekend of pure bliss. Cheers!

Access: The Napa County Airport is the closest airport capable of handling all types of private aircraft.

Prince Edward County, Ontario

While Niagara-on-the-Lake is a popular wine destination outside of Toronto, we also love the quaint region of Prince Edward County. Ripe with scenic views, charming lakeside beaches and gorgeous vineyards, PEC makes for a great romantic getaway or girls weekend. The local culinary options won’t disappoint, with many vineyards and restaurants showcasing homegrown ingredients on the menu. You’ll want to spend time in Wellington, Picton, Hillier and Milford to get the full PEC experience. Consider visiting Sandbanks Estate Winery, TerraCello, Black Prince Winery and Canadian Cellars, Norman Hardie Winery and Vineyard, Rosehall Run Vineyards, Hinterland Winery, Trail Estate Winery and more (there are over 40 vineyards to choose from).

Access: The recently expanded Kingston, Ontario Airport is the closest airport capable of handling all types of private aircraft and has Canadian Customs services.

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia

British Columbia produces some excellent wine out of Vancouver Island and the Fraser Valley, but for a weekend getaway, we love the Okanagan Valley. The region has four official sub-regions, each with its own unique climate and soil conditions: Golden Mile Bench, Naramata Bench, Okanagan Falls and Skaha Bench. The Okanagan Valley produces over 80% of BC’s wine, making it a great option for those who love variety as well as scenery and a relaxed west coast vibe. Consider visiting Sumac Ridge Estate Winery, Hester Creek Estate Winery, Quails’ Gate Winery, Gray Monk Estate Winery, Ancient Hill Estate Winery, Cedar Creek Estate Winery and more. With some many incredible vineyards to explore, you won’t be disappointed!

Access: The Kelowna Airport is the closest airport capable of handling all types of private aircraft.

The Finger Lakes, New York

It may not be the first place that comes to mind, but New York state knows their wine. The Finger Lakes are particularly charming in the fall, when the leaves have changed and the entire region melts into a dreamy, autumn landscape. With three distinct wine trails, the Finger Lakes have no shortage of vino. That said, you’ll want to check out the local distilleries, restaurants, breweries and farmers markets as well. Consider visiting Boundary Breaks Vineyard, Atwater Estate Vineyards, Magnus Ridge Winery, Knapp Winery and The Vineyard Restaurant, Heron Hill Winery and more.

Access: The Finger Lakes Regional, and Penn Yan airports are two convenient airport options in the Finger Lakes region.

Walla Walla Valley, Washington

Nestled in beautiful Washington State lies the Walla Walla Valley, home to some amazing vineyards. The valley offers a unique vibe with modern wine bars and tasting rooms, traditional estate vineyards and stunning natural views. There are over 120 wineries to choose from, from Walla Walla Vintners to Seven Hills Winery, Three Rivers Winery, Northstar Winery, Pepper Bridge Winery and many others. Enjoy!

Access: Walla Walla Regional Airport is just minutes from the vineyards.
